Process on for classical language tag to Meeteilol: WAMA

Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) Kangleipak has expressed appreciation to the directorate of language planning and implementation (DLPI) for finalising documents required for recognition of Manipuri (Meeteilol) as one of the classical languages of the country, and processes for submitting the same to Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba within a short period.
In a statement, WAMA also thanked DLPI director Th Chitra, chief minister N Biren and MP Leishemba Sanajaoba for ensuring timely preparation of the documents, and also the scholars and members of language committee for their contribution in the collection of relevant documents.
The statement further informed that WAMA has been monitoring the words used in literary books, lyrics and Shumang Leela including the ongoing Shumang Leela festival in order to promote the indigenous language.
It also thanked Manipur State Shumang Leela Council and Manipur State Kala Akademi for their contribution in filtering foreign words from Manipuri texts.
