New burn unit of RIMS inaugurated

A newly constructed burn unit of Department of Plastic Surgery, RIMS established under the National Programme for Prevention and Management of Burn Injuries with MTDC as implementing agency was inaugurated by RIMS director Dr A Santa on Saturday.
Speaking at the function, Dr A Santa informed that the burn unit has been constructed with funding from the state government and expressed delight on having a super-specialty block in the institute.
Pointing out that the RIMS building is old as it was constructed in 1968, Santa said that the building could not be replaced instantly.
With the construction of new super-specialty block, construction of a new building is possible in the near future.
After the new burn unit, critical care and casualty block will be constructed while construction of hostel will be completed within short notice, he said.
He also pointed out that as the only gate of the institute causes inconvenience, there is pediatric and trauma unit gate in addition to the main gate and informed that burn unit gate will be the third to mitigate the inconveniences.
Lauding the people for supporting RIMS, Santa said that developing the institute is for the welfare of the people.
The inaugural function was also attended by RIMS medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib and Department of plastic surgery RIMS head and associate professor Ak Ibohal, doctors, nurses and staffers of the institute.
The newly inaugurated unit has operation room, doctor room, nursing station, burn ICU, burn ward and dressing room, among others.
