Lecture pros on 'Indigenous Music' organised

In connection with World Music Day 2022, Department of Umanglai Haraoba, Manipur University of Culture organised a lecture programme on the topic of 'Indigenous Music in Umanglai Haraoba' at the Extension Campus of the varsity at Canchipur on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by Progressive Artists' Laboratory director Nameirakpam Tiken Singh and MUC Department of Umanglai Haraoba guest faculty Mutum Mani-ton as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Department of Umanglai Haraoba Assistant Professor Dr Manju Elangbam highlighted that music is an integral part of human life and civilisation.
The Meitei community holds this true in the sense that the music in Lai Haoraoba festivities is considered sacred and it encompasses a unique identity, form, style, tone, lyric, etc.
Thus, the lecture programme was organised with the objective of discussing the conservative and progressive factors of this indigenous musical heritage so as to help carve a place in the international music arena, he added.
