In a major setback to the Naga People's Front (NPF), office bearers and workers of the party from Mao Assembly Constituency have resigned from the party.
In a letter addressed to the president of NPF Senapati, president and secretary of the NPF Mao branch stated that they have shared their discontentment over the alleged serious breach of principles by the party leaders to Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, president of NPF, Central Headquarters Kohima on March 22, 2022 .
Saying that they sought remedial measures from the party leaders to restore the faith and confidence of the people in the party, the letter mentioned that they also showed the manipulative role of the then leader of NPF legislature party TR Zeliang along with documentary evidence.
Claiming that their candidate L Dikho who was publicly declared by the NPF Central Headquarters as serial no 1 in the party's seniority list in its Manipur State Unit and for a Ministerial position, it alleged that L Dikho, however, was relegated in the seniority list without giving any explanation.
"Our leader and candidate who had won the election against great odds was ditched without giving any explanation," it added.
Claiming that the NPF central leadership is yet to give a sincere response over the issue, it added that they resolved to resign en masse as the 'party leadership is beyond correction' .
A press briefing was also held in this regard.
Speaking to media persons, NPF Senapati Division vice president Zevikho Rossi said that MLA L Dikho contested the Manipur Assembly election on NPF ticket on three consecutive terms and emerged victorious in all three of them.
Zevikho Rossi has also resigned from the party.
Saying that L Dikho was given the PHED portfolio in the previous term of the BJP led coalition Government, Zevikho Rossi continued that non induction of the MLA who won the election since 2012 into the Cabinet is very disheartening.
Saying that NPF Central leaders didn't follow the culture and tradition of the party in shortlisting the two Ministers from the party, Zevikho Rossi maintained that the sole responsibility to shortlist the Ministers lies with the party only and not BJP.
He said that the office bearers and members of NPF, Mao unit resolved to resign so as to express their discontentment over the mismanagement of the NPF.
