Unknown diseases claims many pigs

There has been report about unnatural death of pigs in large number since the past one month or so in Churachandpur district but no official report has been submitted to authority concerned, stated joint director (veterinary-Churachandpur) Dr Gojen and appealed to farmers to contact the district veterinary office in case of detection of unnatural death of pigs so that officials could collect samples for confirmatory diagnosis.
Samples collected from the dead pigs will be sent to the head office and then to outside for confirmation, stated Dr Gojen, adding that contact numbers of officials shall be published in local newspapers so that farm ers could get advice from officials about sicknesses of their pigs.
He also assured of conducting awareness campaign for protection of livestock and appeal to public to extend cooperation.
It is learnt that pig farmers in the district have been hit hard as pigs continue to die in large number.
A pig farmer in New Lamka said that he lost seven pigs in a single day on Saturday while another one is about to die.
The same thing happened to other pig farmers at-various localities of Churachandpur town.
