Three accused sent to jail

Imphal, June 21 2022:
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East today remanded four accused to judicial custody till July 5 in connection with the suspicious death of Ningthoujam Roshan on June 16 evening .
The accused persons identified as Ningthoujam Rakesh Meitei alias Athoi 21, Ningthoujam Jiten (51) and his son Ningthoujam Arunjit (29), all from Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai were produced before the Court by a team of Yaingangpokpi police station after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
Notably, accused Ningthoujam Jiten is the elder brother of the victim (Ningthoujam Roshan) .
The IO of the case submitted that a sister-in-law of the victim lodged a complaint at Yaingangpokpi police station stating that on June 16 at around 3 pm she received a phone call from some neighbours of the victim who informed that her brother-in-law Ningthoujam Roshan alias Ipi (36) s/o Ramsing was found dead.
When she reached the victim's residence at around 4 pm, her brother-in-law (victim) was found lying on the floor covered with a blanket and it was learnt from some neighbours that there was a fight between the victim and family members.
During interrogation, N Rakesh revealed that at around 3 pm of June 16 he along with his cousin N Arunjit went to Laigong river for taking bath.
While they were taking bath, his wife came to them and informed that his brother N Roshan (victim) who he alleged was a drug user was demanding money from his mother by using a weapon.
Rakesh ran toward his home and before reaching their home, his uncle N Jiten came out along with a bamboo stick and started beating the victim.
On reaching their courtyard, N Arunjit punched the victim on the face and he fell down on the ground.
In the meantime, he (N Rakesh) took a firewood from their backyard and hit the victim on his head once.
In the next moment, Rakesh lost consciousness and later at around 4 pm, Rakesh came to know his uncle (victim) was dead, the IO said.
N Jiten also revealed that he heard some sound of quarrel in the courtyard when he was inside and ran out with a bamboo stick and found his son N Arunjit and asked him what was the matter.
Arunjit replied that the victim was demanding money from his mother by threatening with a weapon.
On hearing this, Jiten thrashed his younger brother (victim) with a bamboo stick.
N Arunjit also revealed that he punched his uncle (victim) on the face.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO, remanded the accused nephews and the elder brother of the victim to judicial custody till July 5 .
