A bust of Rajarshi Bhagyachandra was unveiled today at Radhanagar in Agartala as a part of his 282nd birth anniversary celebration.
The birth anniversary was jointly organised by Shri Shri Radha Madhap Manipur Yuva Committee, Agartala and Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation Manipur.
The bust was dedicated by the youngest daughter of the Meitei monarch who ruled Kangleipak in the 18th century, Maharajkumari Hema Manjuri.
Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation founder RK Ranajit, acting president RK Sanajaoba, advisor B Amusana Sharma and priest Abhijit Sharma attended the programme among others.
Speaking to media persons, spokesperson of the foundation, Takhellambam Irabot said that the unveiling of the statue of the monarch will hopefully strengthen the bond between the people of Manipur and Tripura.
Saying that the bust has an inscription which features the work done by the late monarch to promote the art and culture of Manipur and establish a cordial relation with the people in Tripura such as offering his daughter's hand to the king of Tripura Radhara Manik, he thanked the Tripura Government for allowing to instal the bust.
