Jacko, Niranjan strike gold at MMA nationals

The state duo of Laishram Jacko Meitei and Phanjoubam Niranjan Singh secured gold medals at the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation (AIMMAF) National Championship, which was held in Delhi.
Trained at the RMX MMA in Manipur under Indian MMA star Roshan Mainam, Laisham Jacko won his gold,medal in the 52kg MMA category.
He is the son of Laishram Shyam and Laishram Premila of Chairen Khongnang Leikei, Chairen, Thoubal.
Phanjoubam Niranjan Singh, who also trains at RMX MMA and KOI Combat Academy in Bangalore under coach Vishal Seigell, bagged his yellow metal in the striking MMA 65.8 kg category.
Niranjan had earlier represented India at the GAMMA World Championship in Amsterdam.
Hailing from Jiribam's Kamranga Maning Leikai, Niranjan is the son of Phanjoubam Dinamani Singh and Phanjoubam Pratibha Devi.
The AIMMAF National Championship saw more than 100 athletes from across the country competing.
The event was held at the International Health, Sports, and Fitness Festival (IHFF) at Pragati Maidan.
The event also saw many celebrities in attendance.
With their gold medals, both fighters have qualified for the GAMMA Asian MMA Championship, which will take later this year.
The date and location for the Asian Championship is yet to be announced.
