Thoubal, June 21 2022:
Khangabok AC MLA Surjakumar Okram has categorically stated that Government which suppresses the media and doesn't respect human rights and the Opposition will never be able to bring good governance in the country.
Surjakumar Okram is the general secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) .
Denouncing the repeated summon of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with National Herald money laundering case and the alleged weaponization of police and other agencies by the BJP led Central Government, the Khangabok Block Congress Committee staged a protest demonstration at Wangbal under the supervision of MPCC today.
There, Surjakumar continued that the role of Opposition in a Parliamentary democracy is immense and it is their responsibility to scrutinise the activities of the Government.
"However, the policies of the Central Government is undemocratic and they have been scheming to suppress the Opposition leaders by registering senseless FIRs against them," the MLA claimed and added that the unrest triggered by the Agnipath scheme and the controversial Farm Laws might not have taken place had the Government consulted the Opposition on the matters in advance.
Continuing that the Opposition also constitutes a mandate of the people, the MLA urged the Central Government to stop persecution of the Opposition leaders.
Rahul Gandhi appeared before the Enforcement Directorate for the 5th time today in connection with the 'money laundering case' .
