Imphal, September 02 2026:
The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has resolved to carry on the ongoing protest movement until official orders are issued to the effect that the census is deferred and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be updated.
Speaking to media persons at Citizens Club, Soi- bam Leikai this afternoon, JFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba maintained that they cannot accept Census 2027 has been deferred as no official notification has been issued to this effect till date even though Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and some people told media that the census exercise has been deferred.
He appealed to all sections of people to keep in mind that the deferment of census is not official yet.
The JFD convenor asserted that the people remain steadfast on the collective demand for updating the NRC with 1951 as the base year.
He appealed to all sections of people to carry on different modes of intense but democratic agitation until the NRC is updated with 1951 as the base year.
Even though the Manipur Legislative Assembly adopted a resolution twice to update the NRC, the State Government has done nothing to translate the same resolution into action.
With the State Government accustomed to adopting token resolutions, people have little faith in the Government, he said.
He also conveyed gratitude to all the people who made the general strike called from August 31 midnight to September 1 midnight a success.
