IGAR (S) fetes Assam Rifles cycle team

Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) major' general Alok Naresh felicitated members of the Assam Rifles' cycling team who had recently undertaken a 3100-km long cycle rally from Shillong to New Delhi under the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" .
The General Officer appreciated and recognised the efforts of the members towards successful conduct of such strenuous yet grand activity which motivated and encouraged large number of people across many states to keep themselves physically fit and at the same time instilled a sense of nationalism among the fellow citizens, informed a release issued by PRO IGAR (S) .
He also thanked various local cycling clubs which participated in short cycle rallies before the main event.
The purpose of the rally is to express gratitude of grateful countrymen to all the freedom fighters for their sacrifice in achieving India's freedom, said Alok Naresh and highlighted that Assam Rifles troops besides their operational duties are committed to assisting in nation building.
A total of 34 cyclists from various Assam Rifles units under IGAR (S) participated in the rally which was flagged off on September 5 by Director General Assam Rifles from Shillong and traversed through Kolkata, Ranchi, Lucknow and Agra before culminating at Raj Ghat in New Delhi on October 2 coinciding with the birth anniversary of father of the nation.
The flagging in of the rally was done by Union Home minister Amit Shah at Red Fort.
The Assam Rifles cycling team felicitated freedom fighters en-route and spread the message of peace and national integration.
It also carried out tree plantation drives, interacted with students, NCC cadets and visited numerous sites of historical importance to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India's Independence.
