Imphal, October 16 2021:
Eastern Liangmai Naga Chief Chairmen Association (ELNCCA) and Ahangrok Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) in their consultative meeting held on October 13 at Green Tree Academy, Makhan, unanimously resolved to ban poppy plantation/cultivation in "Liangmai Naga inhabited areas under Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, Manipur, with immediate effect".
The Liangmai bodies further resolved that no portion of land or forest should be allowed to be leased out to anyone for the purpose of poppy plantation in "Liangmai areas".
ELNCCA and ACCA then reiterated their stand that the Liangmai community in the area will continue to support "War on drugs" initiated by Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.
The associations then appreciated the initiative of Kangpokpi SP Karthik Malladi to combat the menace of illegal drugs, smuggling of narcotic substances and cultivation in the district.
"Such initiatives will usher in a better and responsible society in the district and to Manipur state as a whole," said the two Liangmai bodies.
Meanwhile, the Liangmai bodies also appealed to the state government to widely publish the details of alternative livelihood that could be availed from different departments by the poppy farmers.
