Public urged to avoid food wastage

College of Food Technology under Central Agricultural University, Imphal observed 'World Food Day' at the college conference hall located at Langol on Saturday.
The observance function organised on the theme 'Our action are our future: Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life' was attended by CAU director of extension education Prof Ph Ranjit Sharma, Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited managing director Peter Salam and All Manipur Food Processor Association secretary T Sanajaoba and College of Food Technology, CAU dean Dr Ng Joykumar as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Ph Ranjit pointed out that World Food Day is observed annually across the world under different themes.
Stressing the need for understanding nutritional value of the foods that one consumes, he explained that the notion of eating just to fulfil our hunger is wrong.
While stating that there is no need for consuming excess amount of rice, he advised that consumption of different kinds of foods should be based on the natural principle of deriving requisite nutrients to keep the body healthy.
Highlighting that many people in the country are facing hunger due to acute shortage of food, Ranjit urged the people to avoid and change the habit of food wastage especially during public feasting and gatherings.
Similarly, Department of Agriculture observed 'World Food Day' on the theme 'Safe food for a healthy tomorrow' at its conference hall on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme, Department of Agriculture director N Go-jendro stressed the need to keep our body healthy by taking nutritious foods and commended scientists for constant development of technologies to produce organic edibles sufficiently.
The main objective of the programme is to keep everyone healthy by taking good foods and to counter the malnutrition faced by the people, he said.
