"Maringa Lamklai Kummoi" celebrated

"Maringa Lamklai Kummoi", the pre-harvest festival of Maring tribe, was celebrated at Khunbi Tuisen Village in Machi Sub-Division, Tengnoupal District on Saturday under the theme of "One Culture One
Identity" .
The third edition of the festival was organised by Maring Uparup Assembly (MUA), an apex body of Maring tribe, and attended by Tengnoupal MLA D Korungthang as chief guest and ex-minister W Morung Makunga as president.
MUA president K Yaima Maring and others including people from other villages also took part in the festival.
As part of the programme, several cultural performances of Maring tribe were presented.
A book of lyrics related to the festival was released, followed by presentation of the cultural attire of Maring tribe.
Speaking at the event, MUA Social and Culture secretary Kh Angdun Maring informed that the festival is celebrated in the middle of Mera month (September-October) for two whole days.
The first day involves the chief leading the villagers in offering prayers for good rain and harvest, while the second day is the main day of the festival, involving cleaning of roads connecting the paddy fields and offering of prayers to the fertility goddess.
In his speech, MUA president K Yaima Maring said that festival was earlier celebrated by the villages but after the inception of MUA, the festival is held collectively.
