International Year of Millets-2023 launched

KVK Utlou on Saturday launched the observance of International Year of Millets-2023 during the Rashtriya Poshan Maah Abhiyan held at its conference hall while also carrying out a tree plantation drive in and around the campus in connection with National Nutrition Mission.
The event was attended by Utlou GP pradhan N Sarat Singh as chief guest and KVK Utlou chairman and ex-union minister Th Chaoba as president, while Ishok GP pradhan W Deven Singh, Sanjenbam Pukhrambam GP pradhan N Birjit Meitei, ICDS Project Bishnupur CDPO Th Suranjoy Singh and senior scientist and KVK Utlou head Dr Kh Brajamani Meetei were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, KVK Utlou scientist N Bandana Devi informed that women often suffer from anaemia due to low intake of nutritious foods.
As such, she urged all concerned to increase the intake of green vegetables in their diet, for good health, while also urging for planting vegetables.
Delivering the presidential speech, Th Chaoba said that PM Narendra Modi has been taking care of the poor people in the country including providing free rice during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He then said that the programme was organised with the aim of helping the womenfolk maintain good health, and urged all concerned to consume healthy foods, adding that healthy mothers give birth to healthy children.
During the programme, which was attended by KVK Utlou Farm Movement and Anganwadi workers, KVK Utlou scientists (Plan Protection) Kh Maipak Singh spoke on the 'Role of Plantation on Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Livelihood', while KVK Utlou Home Science scientist N Bandana Devi gave a lecture on 'Nutri Cereals and Their Role on Human Health' as resource persons.
Later, nutritious food supplements were distributed to 70 women, along with distribution of seeds to those involved in nutri-garden.
