Imphal, September 18 2021:
Concerned Tribal Citizens' Forum, Manipur has urged Governor La Ganesan to implement the provision of Article 371C of the Indian constitution in the hill areas of the state through the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
In a petition submitted to the Governor on Saturday, the Forum stated that the special provision of the Indian constitution under Article 371C in respect of the state of Manipur by the order (dated June 20,1971) of the president of India, late W Giri constituting the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) for the tribal people of Manipur has not been implemented in letter and spirit since its inclusion due to nefarious interferences by the state government.
Stating that the provision under Article 371C is a total failure in Manipur, the Forum urged the Governor, the " Guardian of Tribal People in Manipur under the special provisions of Article of the Indian Constitution", to immediately intervene and pave the way for its implementation through the Hill Areas Committee of
Manipur Legislative Assembly.
