Kangpokpi, September 18 2021:
Non-SoO Kuki militant outfit, KNF (Non-SoO) group has claimed responsibility for firing at a truck on September 13 along National Highway 2 in Champhai area of Kangpokpi district.
The outfit's Information and publicity secretary Jerix Vaiphei stated that a total shutdown was imposed on September 13, 'Sahnit Ni', the Kuki's Black Day, restricting movement of vehicles and closing down all administrative offices and business establishments to pay tribute to the departed souls who had been killed during the Kuki genocide perpetrated by NSCN-IM.
The total shutdown was violated in some areas and the group was compelled to take action even if it didn't want to harm innocent people, Jerix Vaiphei said, adding that a truck which violated the shutdown was fired at near Keithelmanbi Lamkhai in Kangpokpi district.
"Since we don't want to lay hands upon the innocent driver, we fired at the truck as a lesson and warning," he added.
He also said that they will no longer tolerate such violation in future and mockery or going against the outfit.
Jerix further said that as announced earlier, anyone violating the shutdown call should themselves be held responsible for any consequences, so "we clarify to the public that the outfit should not be held responsible for September 13 incident" .
He said, "We are not happy over the violation of the shutdown call and suppressing the observation of the Kuki Black Day (Sahnit Ni) and we could even give extreme punishment or action upon the violator, but we refrained from taking the innocent lives this time.
However, we are not going to give any reconsideration next time if such violation is committed" .
He also appealed to the public not to go against the outfit's directive.
