Govt urged to address inadequacies in colleges

Coordinating Committee of Colleges Students' Union Manipur (COCOCSUM) has urged authorities concerned to address infra-structural and manpower inadequacies in colleges prior to commencement of the new academic session.
It stressed the need for taking up necessary initiatives so as to ensure uninterrupted academic calendar.
In a release, COCOCSUM convenor Khaidem Robinson noted that many students might not get the opportunity to get admission in government colleges owing to promotion of all students in the Class XII examination this time and the Covid-19 the number of students who generally seek higher studies in other states.
In view of this, the government should increase the intake capacity of colleges in the state, he suggested.
While pointing out that some colleges have high number of students with only few teachers and vice-versa, Robinson urged the government to enhance teacher-student ratio and ensure subject rationalization process.
Regarding cessation of admission process by students' unions in several colleges over hike in admission fees, he urged authorities concerned to solve the issue at the earliest.
Authorities should bear all the consequences if academic calendar is disrupted, he cautioned.
With regard to students who could not register in time for admission in colleges, Robinson appealed to authorities concerned for giving a chance to such students so that they could pursue education and take up the course they wish to pursue.
