Opposition unites to protest BJP's anti-people policy

Altogether 11 opposition parties in the state would be participating in the protest against anti-people policy of the Modi government, which will be held across the nation from September 20 to 30.Addressing a press meet in this regard at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, CPI leader Dr M Nara said that a joint committee for the 11 opposition parties has been formed with CPI Manipur state secretary L Sotinkumar as convener and CPI-M secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta as co-convener.
The committee has prepared a list of activities to be carried out in the state during the nation-wide protest, he said.
Regarding the anti-people' policy of the Modi government, Dr Nara said that the BJP led government has become an anti-people government.
It is pursuing a dangerous policy of pri vatisation by selling off airports and railways.
The Modi government has become a government for and of the corporate houses but not of and for the poor people.
Even though farmers have been protesting against the three farm laws, the BJP government is ignoring the issue till date.
Around 500 farmers have died of health conditions and suicides during the farmers' protest.
The 10-day nation-wide protest is being organised to show dissent to the anti-people policies of the Modi government and the opposition parties in the state will also participate in the protest, he said.
Regarding the activities of the BJP-led government in the state, Dr Nara enquired how many sittings the state legislative assembly have had in one year under the BJP government and said that having a session for only two days would bring nothing for the welfare of the public or resolve their issues.
No public issues have been discussed in the state assembly so far.
With the elected government now acting like a dictatorship, it is time the public raise their voices.
There is no place for a government which favours only the corporates while trampling upon the rights of the common people, he said.
MPCC vice-president T Mangibabu said that BJP is running the government with its might while ignoring the constitution.
Under the present regime, poor people will no longer find their place in the society.
BJP is suppressing democracy in the country and the public should rise up and raise their voices, he said, while seeking support from the public to the proposed nation-wide protest.
Representatives of different opposition parties such as CPI, CPI-M, INC, NCP, BSP, AITC, AIFB, RSP, JD(S), MPP and PRJA attended the press meet.
