Imphal, September 18 2021:
Along with organising a sit-in protest, Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) and National Students' Union of India (NSUI) Manipur state unit jointly observed National Unemployment Day' in relation with the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
On Friday around 1 pm, MPYCC and NUI state unit members tried to carry out a protest rally from Congress Bhawan but police stopped them at the gate resulting in a brief tussle.
The protesters led by MPYCC president N Mahananda and NSUI president Md Kabir Ahmad shouted slogans holding the Modi government responsible for job losses, calling BJP government looters and the BJP government both at the Centre and in the state as anti-people.
They then staged a sit-in demonstration at the gate.
Interacting with media at the protest site, Mahananda said that the National Unemployment Day is being observed to mark the 71st birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Narendra Modi assured of creating 2 crore jobs every year and by that calculation, the Modi government should have already created 14 crore new jobs.
On the contrary, unemployment rate is increasing at a record high under his regime and an increasing number of youths are facing the impact of unemployment in the country.
In the state too, BJP in its manifesto for the 2017 state assembly election, assured one job per family but the government has not been able to provide jobs to the people.
Instead, the government is paving way to draw the youths into substance abuse.
Unlike BJP, Congress party wants to empower every youth in the society so that they can shoulder the responsibility of their families and stand on their own feet, he said and added that the protest will continue until BJP fulfils its promises.
