Govt ursed to reinstate MTU VC

Manipur Technical University Students' Adhoc Committee has urged chief minister N Biren and education minister Th Basanta Kumar to file an appeal to High Court of Manipur to reconsider its judgment on removal of present MTU vice chancellor Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram.
In a release, Committee convener Md Asif stated that Dr Bhabeswar took up several steps to address the issues faced by students, faculty and staff.
During his tenure, the varsity made many achievements such as establishing of Manipur Start up Incubation Centre (Technical)-trained, handhold, prototype for 16 Start-ups; MTU Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy Centre; Bamboo Technology Centre; Intellectual Property Rights Centre at MTU for logo, copyright, patent and design, etc., it added.
The Committee continued that he also groomed a startup to get Rs 1 crore prize money from NITI Aayog; many prizes were won by the varsity in Smart India Hackathon Competition held at IIT Ro-orkee, Pune etc.; MoUs were signed with Sikkim Manipal University, CAU, KIIT, SABF, EDULIFE, Manipur College, etc.
along with instituting Atal Innovation Centre under NITI Aayog at MTU.
He also revamped the Institute Innovation Council, Placement and Training, E-Clubs; started various projects with JNIMS, RIMS, NEILIT & PGI.
Dr Bhabeswar also successfully organised major placements for students this year, unlike other years, with many companies coming for recruitment.
He was also able to fill up the vacant faculty posts of the university, it pointed out.
The release further conveyed that considering the measures taken up by Dr Bhabeswar for the development of MTU, the government should make a re-appeal to the HC regarding the matter.
