Imphal, January 28 2023:
Expressing remorse on the judgment of the Fast Track Court, Lamphelpat which declared one Laishram Ibomcha, pronounced guilty of killing a woman and imprisoned for 8 years, as innocent, Lourem bam Loken Meitei, husband of the victim woman, urged the court to review its decision.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, Lourembam Loken of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai, recounted that Ibomcha had already confessed to committing the crime of killing his (Loken) wife Ranjita and even produced the knife used in killing Ranjita to the police.
Terming as unfortunate that the Fast Track Court, Lamphelpat on January 21, 2023 absolved Ibomcha's guilty and decreed for his release, the distraught husband maintained that after the culprit accepted his crime and confessed in front of the court, he was declared as a convict and sent to prison in 2014 only to be released from prison by another order of the court.
Loken wondered as to why the culprit was imprisoned for 8 years if he had not actually committed the crime and questioned whether the government is only for the well to do.
He then cautioned that if people guilty of committing crimes against women and children are set free on the ground of lack of DNA test facilities, the state would ultimately be crammed with individuals with beastly characteristics.
