Thoubal, January 28 2023:
Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit has categorically stated that withholding Autonomous District Councils, Panchayat Raj Institutions and Municipal Councils elections for a prolonged period by the State Government is a trait of dictatorship.
The Congress MLA made the remark while attending the inauguration ceremony of a community hall dedicated to Ima Kalika at Thongam in Sugnu, today.
Here, it may be mentioned that the Cabinet has resolved to hold Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) elections in between March and first week of April this year.
The resolution was taken during a Cabinet meeting convened on January 2 last at the Cabinet Hall of the CM's Secretariat.

The ADC elections, on the other hand, would be held after the completion of delimitation exercise as per the Cabinet.
At the inaugural function, K Ranjit continued that the State Government getting involved in the functioning of ADCs, PRIs and Municipal Council whose terms have already expired is not a good sign.
It is also shameful that the State Government is not able to complete the delimitation exercise pertaining to ADC elections as it is not a difficult work, the Congress leader ridiculed.
Saying that there will be a big change in the political landscape of Manipur after the next year Parliamentary elections, K Ranjit reasoned that BJP losing recent elections in some States is an indication of people losing faith in the party (BJP) .
The MLA went on to state that the work of legislators is similar to that of postman as MLAs are supposed to give the benefits of different welfare schemes to the masses and take up developmental works.
He appealed to the people to support the INC candidate in the upcoming Kakching Khunou Municipal elections.
Sungu Block Congress Committee president Ingobi, BCC former president Kh Nimaichandra and Kakching District Congress Committee vice president A Manihal also attended the programme.
