AZSU hails Zeme Padma winner Dr Ramkuiwang

All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU-AMN) has congratulated Dr Ramkuiwang Newme, the first Zeme to be conferred one of country's highest civilian award Padma Shri 2023 .
AZSU general secretary Hai-heube Kuame, in a release, said that Dr Ramkuiwang truly deserves the award for dedicating his whole life to the cause of the society, specifically for conservation and preservation of Heraka religion, an indigenous religion of Zeliangrong people.
Dr Ramkuiwangbe is a known figure across northeast region and India for his contribution to preserving the identity of Zeliangrong from religious perspective.
He was bom on May 25,1947 at Boro Henam village, located 30 km west of Haflong, the headquarters of North Cachar Hills District, Assam.
His father was Inchekambe Newme, one of the first politicians among from Zeliangrong Nagas in NC Hills and his mother was Nramtuile Newme.
Ramkui is the fourth child among seven siblings.
He graduated from Shillong Government College in 1975 and was appointed as sub-inspector of schools under North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council in 1980 .
He served for 31 years in education department and then was promoted to District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) and retired in 2011 .
Dr Ramkui had long association with national freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu, who was also one of the pioneers of Heraka movement.
He was Rani's personal assistant from 1977 to 1978 and still serves as the president of Rani Gaidinliu Memorial Junior College, Boro Haflong since 2019 .
For Heraka movement specifically, Dr Ramkui served as the president of Zeliangrong Heraka Association NEI from 2005 till 2017.Since 2017, he became a patron member of the association and actively contributed to the activities of the association.
He had also written two books namely Tingwang Hingde (A religious book on Heraka) and Ranipui Gaidin liu Rasam (Biography of Ra -nima Gaidinliu) .
He was also conferred many other prestigious so cial awards in the past for his contribution to the society.
In 1997, he received Guru ji Samaj Deoraj Prabadhan Puruskar from Jana Kalyan Samiti, Pune in Mumbai.
He was also given the Bhaorao Deoraj Samrity Sewa San man in Muzzafarnagar, Uttar Pradesh in 2010 .
NITTE University of Mangalore (Karnataka) also conferred him.
Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in 2018 .
