Imphal, January 28 2023:
Leihoumee Salai Ahongpung Thougal Lup (LSATL) has sought the attention of Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba and Chief Minister N Biren Singh to save the sacred site of 'Khurai Ahongpung' .
The president of LSATL Nandalala Angom made the above appeal while speaking to media persons during a press meet held today in connection with the ongoing 'Loutarol' ceremony at Khurai Ahongpung.
He asserted that Khurai Ahongpung is a sacred site of Meiteis and holds a significant place in the history of Manipur.
Expressing discontentment over the emerging structures of other communities in the surrounding areas, he maintained that such acts have threatened this sacred site which is really unfortunate.
He further stated that 'the land area of this site has been reduced as per the current Government report' which is highly questionable.
Though Khurai Ahongpung has been included in the ten selected places under the Manipur Historical Ancient Monument and Remains Act as per a Government Gazette notification issued in 2020, no proper land demarcation has been done till date, he decried.
In view of the above concerns, Nandalala urged the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba to take up appropriate measures at the earliest to safeguard this historical and sacred site in the interest of the upcoming generation.
He also appealed to resolve the existing tension with regards to Khurai Ahongpung amicably with the participation of representatives of different stakeholders.
As a part of the ongoing 'Loutarol' ceremony, a ritual song dedicated to Shoubon Yairen Chanu Ima was also performed.
