Manipur conflict stems from illegal immigrants: ZYF

Imphal, June 10 2026:
The lack of an effective mechanism to detect, identify and deport illegal immigrants has fuelled demographic invasion and prolonged the conflict, said the Zeliangrong Youth Front in a statement today.
What Manipur is facing at present is a conflict that has been caused by illegal immigrants from Myanmar trying to control the indigenous people and usurp their ancestral land through arms aggression after signing the tripartite Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Centre and the State Government, asserted the ZYF.
It said, the Kuki underground groups under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) have been let loose from 2023 onwards to "carry out abduction and kill innocent civilians" .
The SoO agreement seems to have given them "a license to do whatever they want" .
While the SoO militants have committed heinous crimes, including the abduction of Naga civilians and the recent killing of Chungjanglung Pamnei (57) of Charoipandongba village, the Centre and the State Government have not even bothered to check and monitor their activities, said ZYF .
While the Government of India has not put in an all out effort to end the conflict, it has deployed Cobra Commando Battalions to contain the situation by way of force without fully knowing the ground realities.
While such a step risks escalating tension, the situation in Manipur differs starkly from that of the Naxalite hit areas of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, said ZYF .
The Manipur conflict stems from illegal immigrants, who infiltrated into the State from Myanmar, trying to control the indigenous people and usurp their ancestral land by using arms under the Suspension of Operation (SoO).
The Naga villagers, on the other hand, are defending and guarding their respective villages from intrusion and aggression of the Kuki underground groups, said the ZYF .
It also asserted that there is an urgent need for re-organisation of the inter-district boundaries so that clear demarcation base on administrative convenience can be made to enhance smooth enforcement of law and order issues and bring about a permanent and long lasting solution to the crises.
