Imphal, November 05 2022:
Namdulong Pei secretary Aguilung Gangmei has alleged that Tangkhul Katamnao Long (TKL), Imphal president Thangsing has violated the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Pei and TKL, Imphal after a clash that took place between two communities on October 31 evening near Khuman Lampak.
Strongly condemning violation of the MoU, Aguilung Gangmei said that lives of many people would have been lost had the clash on October 31 evening not intervened and stopped by elders of Namdulong and timely arrival of police.
To have lasting peace between the two communities, Namdulong Pei, Namdulong Youth Club and Namdulong Women Society signed the MoU with TKL, Imphal and other relevant organisations on the next day on November 1 .
However, TKL, Imphal president Thangsing violated the MoU by issuing a rejoinder about the incident on November 2, Aguilung Gangmei said.
Addressing media persons at the office of Namdulong Development Committee, here, on Saturday, Aguilung recalled that TKL, Imphal and other relevant organisations were invited to hold talk about the October 31 incident on November 1 and accordingly an MoU was signed between the two sides for ensuring lasting peace.
TKL Imphal also apologised for causing damage to Namdulong gate, houses and vehicles during the clash but it was very unfortunate that the TKL president violated the MoU on the very next day, he said, adding that Namdulong Pei strongly condemns violation of the MoU.
He also said that violation of the MoU by TKL Imphal tantamount to dishonouring the leaders and the Pei, the customary court of the Rongmei community.
Asking if TKL Imphal does not want peace in the area, Aguilung Gangmei said that a police complaint will be lodged to punish those involved in damaging properties of Namdulong.
He also said that TKL Imphal president Thangs-ing is not fit to hold his post and should be boycotted.
