Must remember sacrifices of our forefathers: CM

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that all of us tend to forget the work of our great forefathers but it is must for the people to remember their sacrifices and achievements.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 13th Jadonang Memorial Football Tournament held at Main Stadium, Khuman Lampak, here, on Saturday, CM N Biren called upon everyone to pay their respect to the great forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the country.
One should never forget their selfless sacrifices but try to emulate them, he said.
Observing that Zeliangrong community is very fortunate that they are blessed with great freedom fighters such as Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu, he termed as tragic that people of the state seem to have forgotten them.
It's our duty to remember our forefathers, without them the state could not have shown its distinct identity to the world, he said.
The CM continued that recognising the valour of Rani Gaidinliu, the centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has commissioned a ship named 'Rani Gaidinliu'.
The state government is also making efforts for developing memorial parks in honour of our freedom fighters, he added.
N Biren also stated that the present government is committed to bring inclusive development and has undertaken many developmental works across the state.
The CM asserted that sports can unite people and communities as it has no religion, caste and creed.
Also mentioning that there is a strong sports movement in the state, N Biren said that the government is developing Astroturf football grounds in Tamenglong, 21 playgrounds in Tamei area and three grounds in Oklong, Senapati among others.
Tribal affairs and hills minister Letpao Haokip, water resources minister Awangbow Newmai, social welfare minister Heikham Dingo, Hill Areas Committee chairman Dinganglung (Dipu) Gangmei, MLAs Khumukcham Joykisan, Janghemlung Panmei and others were also present during the function.
