Susindro fears deforestation impact on JJM goal

While deliberating on the goal of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to deliver tap water connection to every household of the state, Public Health Engineering (PHE) minister L Susindro said that the impact of deforestation could have adverse effect in achieving the target of the mission.
Attending the get-together cum freshers' meet of Mao Youth and Students' Organisation (MYSO), Imphal organised under the theme 'Embracing the Tradition of Togetherness' at Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong, here, on Saturday, Susindro pointed out that hill districts are facing water crisis due to rampant deforestation.
It is time to stop the practice of deforestation for illegal poppy plantation as these practices not only affect the climatic condition but also the people and their livelihood, he stressed and informed that Jal Jeevan Mission is an ambitious project of the government that aims to provide tap water connection to every household.
While expressing apprehension that deforestation might pose hurdles in achieving the goal, the minister also called for unity and integrity among the different indigenous communities of the state for safeguarding the territory of the state together.
He also hailed Mao Maram community as the vanguard of the state's territory and said that the government is treating all the communities equally but it is obvious that hard working communities will fare better in the development journey.
Instead of feeling envious or looking down on others, all the communities should work together and stand together for a developed and united Manipur, he exhorted.
MYSO leaders, representatives of different organisations and several prominent persons also attended the event.
