Thoubal, November 05 2022:
Decrying the deplorable condition of road and absence of potable water supply in areas under the jurisdiction of Thoubal Municipal Council ward no 12, local meira paibi groups drew the attention of the government to look into the matter.
While revealing that the locals never had access to tap water in their lives even after 75 years of India's independence, meira paibi activist Lisam Kumu told media persons at Haokha Mamang Leikai Konjin on Saturday that people of the area are facing serious inconvenience due deplorable condition of the Haokha Mamang Leikai road, the construction work on which has remains incomplete.
Pointing out that she has been staying in the area for around 73 years, Kumu said that she never had the opportunity to consume tap water and urged chief minister N Biren to look into the matter and do the needful for providing tap water to the people.
Meanwhile, Wangkhem MLA K Meghachandra visited Haokha Mamang Leikai and talked with the meira paibi members.
The MLA informed that preparation is on to supply tap water to people of Thoubal Okram and Haokha Mamang Leikai.
Work order for construction of overhead tank under Jal Jeevan Mission was already issued on December 13 but it has been delayed due to dispute over site of the construction.
He then assured of construction the tank after the paddy harvest season and completing it within seven months.
Regarding non-completion of Haokha Mamang Leikai-road work, Meghachandra said that construction of the road was entrusted to a contractor but the work order was revoked by the government after the recent assembly election.
The issue was raised even in the assembly session, he recalled, while clarifying that there is no wrong on the part of the contractor or the MLA.
The construction has been halted as the government stopped all activities in 60 assembly constituencies due to financial problems, he added.
Later, the MLA inspected the site for constructing the water supply over-head tank at Haokha Mamang Leikai as well as the existing condition of the road.
