Two held with drugs in Ccpur, Assam

A team of Churachandpur police station on Saturday afternoon arrested a man with around 385 gm of brown sugar from near the oil pump at Koite village.
The arrested man has been identified as Ngamminlal Touthang (37) s/o Thanghao Touthang of T Kannanphai village, Churachandpur.
According to police report, information was received that an unknown auto driver, plying between Churachandpur District Hospital and Johar Phaicham, is transporting drugs.
A team of Churachandpur police station stationed for checking operation near the oil pump at Koite village stopped a vehicle around 4.25 pm on Saturday.
During checking of the auto-rickshaw (MN04B-1463) driven by Ngam minlal Touthang, the team found 3 black polythene bags under the seat of the driver, which were opened in the presence of Tuibong SDM.
Around 30 soap cases were found inside, containing 30 packets of suspected brown sugar, weighing a total of 385 gm including the weight of the plastic cover.
The team then seized the vehicle, one mobile phone and an Aadhaar card and arrested Ngamminlal at 5.10 pm by observing all necessary formalities Both the seized articles and the arrested person were handed over to Churachandpur PS where a case has been registered for further investigation, the report conveyed.
On the other-hand, Assam police on Saturday seized drugs worth Rs 15 crore in Kamrup (M) district and arrested one person on charges of drug peddling.
According to IANS report, the drugs were seized at a toll gate in the Sonapur area of the district.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Ajmal Khan, a resident of Thoubal district in Manipur.
Based on a tip-off received by the police, a team led by the Joint Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta intercepted a vehicle at the Nazirakhat toll gate near Sonapur.
Mahanta said that while searching the vehicle, the police found 60,000 Yaba tablets in hidden chambers.
"The market value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around Rs 15 crore," he added.
