NIA Court extends judicial remand of father, son

The Special Judge, NIA Manipur has approved an application filed by NIA to extend the judicial custody remand of a man and his son who were arrested for allegedly taking part in laying a deadly ambush at Sialsih village in Churachandpur on November 13, 2021 from 90 to 180 days.
In the ambush which was jointly carried out by PLA and MNPF cadres, one Commanding Officer of Assam Rifles, his wife, son and four other jawans were killed, apart from injuring six other jawans.
Accused Khamliankhup (58) s/o (L) Lamgingthang of Jangnuam of Singngat and his son Thangkhuallian (28) were sent to judicial custody on June 3 last.
The Special PP of NIA submitted that a group of militants carried out an attack on the convoy of 46 Assam Rifles near Sialsih village under Singngat police station with arms and explosives, killing five Assam Rifles personnel including Colonel Viplav Tripathi, along his wife and son on November 13 last year.
The proscribed PLA claimed responsibility for the attack and a case was registered at Singngat police station under different Sections of IPC and Explosive Substance Act.
The NIA re-registered the case as per the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Special PP further submitted that Khamliankhup was arrested on May 21 last while his son Thangkhuallian was arrested on May 27 last and both of them were remanded to judicial custody on June 3 .
It was further submitted that the accused father and the son and a few other persons were directly or indirectly involved in the ambush as both of them had close connection with Berlin, a top commander of PLA who executed the ambush along with other cadres of the outfit.
The PP also claimed that the two accused have disclosed names of other persons involved in the case.
It was also revealed that the two accused purchased a number of guns and cartridges of single and double barrel guns from East India Arms Company, Imphal and another gun house in Manipur and sold them in Myanmar without proper documents.
The Special PP alleged the Aadhaar cards used by the accused were fake as they don't reside in the address given in the Aadhaar cards.
The Court, after going through the report submitted by the NIA, allowed extension of judicial custody remand of the two accused from 90 to 180 days.
