Four honoured for collecting signatures of 211 MPs

Imphal, August 20 2022:
Joint Struggle Committee for Manipuri Language organised the 31st Manipuri Language Day celebration, commemorating the day Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.
The committee also honoured four people, who collected signatures of 211 MPs to get the Bill pass in both houses of the Parliament, in the function held at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday.
Former minister Kh Jibon and Manipur Sarvodaya Mandal president TD Ngangomba attended the function as chief guest and president respectively while former minister I Biren, writer L Memo and Sanathong editor Manindra Konsam were present as guests of honour.
CPI M state secretary Ksh Shanta also attended the function.
The four individuals honoured on the occasion for their roles in collecting signatures of 211 MPs during the movement for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th schedule are Dr Puyam Khogendro of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai, advocate Yengkokpam Priyokumar of Khabam Lamkhai, Sarat Salam of Sagolband Salam Leikai and Yumnam Ratan of Uyumpok Maning Leikai.
Progressive Writers' Association (PWA) Manipur, Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) Manipur, All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO) Manipur and Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship (ISCCF) Manipur also jointly organised the celebration at Irawat Bhawan here on Saturday.
PWA advisor Langol Iboyaima, ISCCF president Laishram Sotinkumar and CPI state council secretary L Thoiren attended the event as presidium members.
A poetry meet was also held as part of the celebration.
The organisers are also planning to conduct a photo, exhibition related with the movement on August 31.Patriotic Writers' Forum Manipur also organised Manipuri Language Day celebration at Manipur Press Club on Saturday with MLA Karam Shyam, Forum president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang and Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Sylhet assistant secretary Khundrakpam Somendro as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The forum also presented Pacha Meetei Literary Award 2022 to Maibam Premo-jit, Dr Saroj Nalini Arambam Paratt Literary Award 2022 to Khumanthem Aneshwari and R Kathing Tangkhul Literary Award 2022 to Devjani Yumnam on the occasion.
The 31st Manipuri Language Day was also celebrated at Agartala, Tripura by Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura on Saturday.
The celebration held at Tarou Meitei Leikai, Agartala was attended by Forum's vice-president Thongatabam Gour Kishore Sharma, secretary Khoisnam Mangol and Marup Paoche joint editor RK Tarunjit Singh as presidium members.
The event was marked by poetry recitation by Khundrakpam Kanika Singha, Laipubam Pratima Sharma and Kh Birala Singha and song presentation by Ningombam (o) Bibha Singha along with Khoisnam (o) Birola.
