Imphal, August 20 2022:
Condemning the delay in the process of giving promotion to primary teachers eligible for elevation as graduate teachers, Graduate Teachers' Promotion Demand Committee (GTPDC) staged a sit-in protest at Keishamthong Model High School here on Saturday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, GTPDC chairperson N Debjani contended the order issued by Education (S) senior administrative officer on August 5 to promote teachers who secured more than 50 per cent in the graduation was in total violation of the rules and regulations (RR) announced by the then director N Praveen for promotion as graduate teachers if they are a graduate and completed 5 years of regular service.
It is suspicious that the recent order tried to only promote those who are near and dear ones of the higher ups in the department.
Moreover, the new order issued in violations of the earlier office memorandums and amidst the instructions against amending the DPC order is seriously taken by the committee, she added.
N Debjani further cautioned of launching different forms of protest if the rights of the teachers, who are responsible for shaping a good society, are violated.
The demands of the committee include revoking of the order issued by administrative officer on August 5; giving promotion to deserving primary teachers; abiding by the RR 2016, office memorandum issued on May 15, convey order on October 15, 2021 and the judgement given by the High Court bn December 21, 2021, she said.
Placards inscribed with slogans like 'Don't violate the right of promotion for teachers', 'Don't impose divide and rule policy among the teachers', 'Suspend incompetent Education (S) senior officers', etc., were used during the sit-in.
