Will urge Centre to allow to write UPSC competitive exams in Manipuri language: Leishemba Sanajaoba

Rajya Sabha MP, Leishemba Sanajaoba has categorically stated that he will urge the Central Government to allow to write the competitive examinations of UPSC in Manipuri language (Meetei Mayek or Bengali Mayek) .
He made the above statement while speaking as the chief guest at the Manipuri Language Day observation held at Manipur Press Club organised by Wakhal Manaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak today.
He further stated that Manipuri language has not yet progressed much though it was included in the Indian Constitution years back.
He also assured that he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow to write the competitive examinations of UPSC in Manipuri language and will raise the proposal on the Rajya Sabha floor whenever it's convenient.
The MP also expressed belief that the Ministries concerned of the Central Government will actualise the proposals raised by him to include Meetei Mayek in Indian currencies and to give Manipuri language the status of Indian Classical languages which was raised by him earlier.
He also called for suggestions regarding the issues of the State which he can draw the attention of Rajya Sabha by putting up the same during its sessions.
The MP further assured to urge the Ministries concerned of the Central Govt to allot a National Channel in Manipuri language and to come up with a computer software programme in Manipuri language as suggested by the speakers in today's programme.
Members of WAMA and active contributors for the upliftment of Manipuri language also attended the programme as the presidium members.
The Joint Struggle Committee for Manipuri Language also observed Manipuri Language Day today at Manipur Press Club in a separate event.
The observation was graced by former Ministers, Khundrakpam Jibon and A Biren, writer L Memo and editor of Santhong, Konsam Manindra as the presidium members, said a press release by the Committee.
Presenting the keynote address, Kshetrimayum Santa appealed to the Central and State Government to take up necessary measures for the development of Manipuri language.
He made the above appeal while maintaining that the language has not yet attained the stage of development owing to lack of proper upliftment policies and measures.
During the programme, four persons who played a major role in collecting signatures of 211 Member of Parliament (MPs) for the inclusion of Manipuri Language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution were honoured by presenting certificates of appreciation and traditional shawls.
The persons who were honoured today are Dr Puyam Khogendro from Thoubal Kshetri Leikai, Advocate Yengkokpam Priyokumar from Khabam Lamkhai, Sarat Salam from Sagolband Salam Leikai and Yumnam Ratan from Uyumpok Maning Leikai.
On behalf of the Joint Struggle Committee for Manipuri Language, Asangbam Netrajit announced that a photo exhibition of available photos of the Manipuri Language Movement will be held on August 31 .
