MPCC observes 78th birth anniv of Rajiv Gandhi

As in other parts of the country, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the 78th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Congress Bhavan here today.
At the observance, Congress leaders and workers led by MPCC president K Meghachandra and former Chief Minister O Ibobi offered floral tributes to the photo of Rajiv Gandhi.
Addressing the gathering, O Ibobi, while recalling the works done by Rajiv Gandhi, said that the voting age was reduced from 21 to 18 during the time of the former Prime Minister.
Saying that Congress is a political party which always delivers its promises and strives to empower women, Ibobi maintained that it was Rajiv Gandhi who advocated and introduced 30 per cent seats reservation for women in local bodies.

The former Chief Minister said that Congress would deliver its assurance of reserving 30 per cent of Assembly and Parliamentary seats for women if it returns to power.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by LTTE in Sri Lanka, he added.
