Court grants pre-arrest bail to SIMS teachers

The Session Judge, Imphal West has granted interim pre-arrest bail (anticipatory bail) to two teachers of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) who allegedly colluded with the managing director cum founder of the institute in allegedly kidnapping and defiling a student till August 24.The managing director cum founder of SIMS was accused of kidnapping and raping a student of the same institute on August 14 by a particular club based at Kakwa.
Co-accused Sonia Yam-bem (29) d/o Kulla of Bamon Kampu and Laishram Kunjarani Devi (28) d/o Laishram Ibopishak 'Singh of Top Khongnang-khong filed the application under Section 438 CrPC.
The Court" heard the counsel of the petitioners who submitted that the petitioners are working as guest lecturers at SIMS, Porompat.
On August 16, 2022, the 24 years old student of the institute lodged a report to the Officer-in-charge of Imphal West women police station, alleging that she was kidnapped and raped by Yumnam Surjitkumar of Porompat (founder of SIMS) at the residence of Md Wajid at Sekmaijin.
The counsel further submitted that a team of women police personnel came to arrest the petitioners on August 18 when they were out of their residences as an FIR was registered against them.
While submitting that the petitioners didn't commit any offence and the charges levelled against them were false, the counsel prayed for granting pre-arrest bail to the two coaccused to prevent their arrest on false allegations.
The Court perused the application and enclosed documents before directing the Officer-in-charge concerned to furnish a detailed report regarding the FIR.
The Court also granted interim pre-arrest bail to the petitioners and fixed August 24 for the next hearing.
