Imphal, August 20 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress leader Ningthoujam Popilal on Saturday alleged that R1MS director Professor A Santa has been acting in favour of his close aides.
Addressing a press meet held in front of RIMS gate, Popilal said that RIMS is an important medical institution of the state but its administration is thoroughly rotten from the core.
On August 8, deputy director (administration) Kaikam Doungel completed his deputation tenure and RIMS director Prof A Santa appointed Department of Obstetrics & Gynae HOD Prof M Rameshwar as the new deputy director (administration).
Questioning how Prof Santa appointed Prof Rameshwar to the post, when the latter neither meets seniority or eligibility criteria; Popilal wondered how the administration would be able to function if such appointment based on connection were to be done.
Additionally, after Prof M Rameshwar's appointment, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynae is now facing huge inconveniences.
The MPYC leader continued that there are over 600 vacant regular posts in RIMS presently.
However, instead of filling up these posts, Prof Santa has been looking out for his self interests and ignoring the daily wages and labour law.
Daily wagers are paid Rs 225 instead of Rs 430."Furthermore, various funds have been sanctioned under the Ministry concerned for development of RIMS, but the incompetency of the administration has led to the call back of some of the funds.
Prof Santa allegedly used some of the funds to pacify his detractors by offering contract works, while he also deducts some of the percentage.
"It is also unfortunate that many good machines being kept at RIMS are not used in the treatment of the poor people but used as a means to earn profits for himself.
The machines are also often times rendered useless as there are barely any skilled persons available to operate them.
An example of this is patients have to go for testing at private hospitals instead of RIMS.
The machines are not serving their purposes of help ing/benefitting the people," Popilal remarked.
Meanwhile, many renowned professors have taken voluntary retirement during Prof Santa's term, which is one of the highest so far.
This could be attributed to his (Santa) "dictatorship" style of functioning, the MPYC leader said and urged the current director to stop seeking out only his self-interests.
He also urged for any incoming director to guide RIMS onto the right path and urged the CM to help RIMS develop to the level of AIIMS, while cautioning Prof Santa that he would be responsible for any consequences resulting from any acting on his self-interests.
