3 more bodies found, 8 still missing

Noney/Imphal, July 11 2022:
Three more dead bodies were recovered today as the search operation launched in the aftermath of the massive landslide which devastated a railway sub-station at Marangching, Noney district and surrounding areas on June 29 continued for the 12th day.
So far 53 dead bodies have been recovered while eight bodies/persons are still missing.
One body identified to be Sonal Kumar (42) from Assam who worked as site in-charge/officer of VSC Construction Company was recovered from beneath the debris at around 11 am.
The second body was recovered at around 12.40 pm from Ijei River near the dam created by the landslide.
The body is yet to be identified.
Further, lower body part (below the waist) of another victim was recovered from the landslide site.

Considering the hardships faced by the officials and volunteers who had been carrying out the rescue and search operation for 12 days continuously, Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai said that a review meeting will be held to discuss requisition of additional force for the search operation.
The meeting would also discuss whether the search operation would continue beyond three days or not, Awangbow said.
The Minister also requested the Army, NDRF, SDRF and volunteers for full cooperation until the missing victims are found.
It may be mentioned that Awangbow has been continuously supervising the ground zero of the landslide affected areas.
Awangbow Newmai also appreciated the sustained efforts being made by rescue teams, volunteers of civil organisations, specially RNYOM, RNSOM and conveyed gratitude to the Makhuam Women Society who have been serving food and refreshment to the rescue teams and volunteers.
