Thousands of fingerlings released under "Fish Liberation" project at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, July 11 2022:
In a bid to increase the population of fish in Ukhrul district, more than 20,000 fingerlings were released today under the "Fish Liberation" project in four major rivers of the district.
Speaking to media persons, Shairei Pheiray, an elder of Phungcham village, Ukhrul expressed his gratitude to Transport and Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Minister, Khashim Vashum for initiating "Fish Liberation" project to help the people of Ukhrul district.
The fish seeds were purchased by Khashim Vashum from the Fisheries Department, Imphal and transported to Ukhrul.

The fingerlings were equally distributed for liberation in Phungcham Rangatak Kong, Challou river, Somdal Kongrei river and Ihang River.
Shairei Pheiray also informed that three fish varieties namely Common Carp, Grass carp and Rohu were released in the rivers.
He continued that the project will increase fish population and boost fish market in the district.
He further urged all to stop using chemical and electric current for fishing in the river.
