Manorama remembered

The 18th death anniversary of Thangjam Manoram was observed today at her residence in Bamon Kampu.
The observation jointly organised by Working Committee of Apunba Lup and Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust was attended by L Memchoubi president Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi; Th Nilbir, president Thangjam Manorama Memorial Charitable Trust and Th Somananda, president PYC, Bamon Kampu as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Phulindro Konsam, coordinator of the Working Committee of Apunba Lup said the killing of Thangjam Manorama is one of the cruelest atrocities committed by security forces under the immunity of Armed Forces Special Powers Act-1958 .
He added that many other women including Chanu Rose of the State have been victims of security forces.
The fact that none of the security personnel who were involved in killing Th Manorama have been brought to justice is condemnable, he added.
He further informed that cases related to more than 1500 cases of fake encounters are still pending.
Phulindro Konsam also reiterated that the demand of the Working Committee of Apunba Lup and the people of the State is complete removal of AFSPA from the State and not just removal from some parts.
Thangjam Manorama was taken away by security personnels of 17 Assam Rifles on the night of July 10, 2004 from her residence and was killed the next day.
The incident was followed by strong public outcry.
