Cong protests 'arson' attempt

Members of different Congress com-mittees staged a sit-in protest in front of Congress Bhavan today demanding arrest of miscreants suspected to be BJYM workers who started a fire in front of its office at BT Road within 24 hours.
During the protest demonstration, the Congress displayed placards with inscriptions demanding withd- rawal of FIR registered against its youth wing president Popilal and condem- ning the alleged attempt to torch its office and placing of a petrol bomb in the periphery.
It is cowardice, the protesters said on the alleged attempt to burn down its office.
Speaking to media persons, MPCC general secre- tary Wahidur Rahman said that the Congress party condemned the attack at its office by some miscreants suspected to be by BJYM volunteers and takes the matter very seriously.

The incident took place in the heart of Imphal City and in close proximity to Raj Bhavan, he said and asked how those miscreants open-ly came on foot in the high security zone and attempted to torch the office last night.
Saying the alleged attempt was to suppress the voice of the Opposition party, Wahidur urged the authorities concerned to arrest those micreants within 24 hours and take up legal actions.
Targeting the BJP Government on law and order issue, Wahidur that the attempt to torch Congress office is a challenge to all the people of Manipur.
Not a single police officer came to enquire about the incident and it is very unfortunate, he rued.
He also asked why the police is not registering any FIR to investigate the attempt to burn Congress office and at the same time throw baseless charges against Popilal.
He also accused the BJP Government of undermining the laws of the land on numerous occasions.
State coordinator of Youth Congress Committee Th Kiran said that the political landscape in Manipur is becoming alarming under BJP and the same has been validated by the attempt to burn its office by suspected BJYM members.
He also said that the FIR registered against Popilal over the assault of BJP functionaries is baseless.
