Imphal, February 11 2023:
Ima Panthoibi Street Vendors' Union has appealed to the state government to construct a new market complex, with special consideration for the street vendors in Khuman Lampak area.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, union president Y Indrani said that women from different communities are selling vegetables and other products on the roadside near Khuman Lampak.
They have been urging the government to construct a market complex for them with the previous government even reserving a land plot for the same.
Chief Minister N Biren was also part of the Congress government that allotted the plot for the market complex and he himself had told the union members that the Centre had sanctioned fund and construction will begin soon.
However, the present government ignored the project and diverted its attention towards construction of market complexes in hill districts.
While it is a good initiative to construct market complexes in the hill districts, the union's long pending demand is also a legitimate one and it will provide vending space to street vendors of different communities from both hills and valley, she said, while urging for early consideration of their appeal.
