Death anniv of RK Sanatomba observed

The 29th Death Anniversary of Kangla Lanpung editor RK Sanatomba was observed by RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust at Konung Hijagang community hall on Thursday.
As a part of the observance, the RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award-2022 was presented to Imphal Free Press reporter Keny Phurailaitpam.
The observance was attended by Trust managing trustee Rk Nimai's mother Mangi Shija, IBSD scientist Dr Nanaocha Sharma and Manipur Cultural Integration Conference (MCIC) president A Brajakumar Sharma as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Brajakumar Sharma remarked that while we are in arguing amongst ourselves, we seem to have forgotten about the future, which is a serious matter for Manipuri Society.
As per the 2011 census report, the population of Meetei community was 7.51 lakh, non-locals 7.41 lakh, Meetei Pangal 5.60 lakh and tribals 8.02 lakh.
Of the total population, the Meetei community is around 26.3 per cent, non-local 25.9 per cent, Meetei Pangal around 19.6 per cent and tribal around 28.2 percent.
The report is a frightening indicator of the future of the indigenous people.
Thus, there is the need for all of us to discuss this matter in detail for the sake of future, he said, while stressing the important role played by journalists in this regard.
In his speech, RK Nimai recounted that the Trust was floated in 2003 and conferring of the Memorial Journalist Award started since 2004.He also recalled the contributions made by RK Sanatomba in the field of journalism, while observing that despite low pay, Manipuri journalists are dedicated in their service to the people.
During the observance, the 14th Volume Issue 1 of Kangla Lanpung was also released by the dignitaries.
