Child succumbs to Dengue, 18 positive in Moreh

Fogging and intensive surveillance are on in the border town of Moreh after a Dengue positive child succumbed to the disease at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
So far, 18 people in the border town have been confirmed positive of contracting vector-borne viral disease.
A nine years old child hailing from T Tonglhang village was found positive of Dengue on June 17 and died at RIMS.
Accordingly, a team of VRDL-RIMS and District Malaria Officer (DMO) Tengnoupal district visited Moreh on June 24 and 25 and collected 77 blood samples from Chwangphai, T Tonglhang, D Khonomphai and Chanou villages.
When the blood samples were tested at RIMS, 21 were found to be equivocal, 30 negative and 18 positive for Dengue.
The result confirmed that 11 residents of Chwangphai and five of T Tonglhang village have con traded Dengue.
One each resident of Khonomphai and Chanou villages were also confirmed positive for the disease.
Accordingly, DMO Tengnoupal Dr Manibushan informed T Tonglhang village chief Onkhosei Baite for taking up necessary precautions to prevent spread of the disease in and around the village.
After 18 people were confirmed for Dengue, fogging and intensive surveillance started from June 30 in these villages under the supervision of himself and assistant malaria officer (Tengnoupal) Kamei Khamchungpui.
According to sources, all the 18 Dengue positive vil lagers are still experiencing bouts of fever.
