Anti-liquor legalisation protest continues

Imphal, April 16 2023:
In continuation of the on-going protest against the government's decision to legalise liquor in the state, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA), All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Takhel Irengbam Mamang Makha Nupi Lup jointly staged a sit-in protest at Irengbam Mamang Makha Leikai community hall in Bishnupur district on Sunday.
During the sit-in, the protestors shouted slogans and held placards inscribed "What is hygienic liquor?", "No to sale and brewing of liquor Is legal -ised liquor safe for consumption? Will it prevent crime?", "Will legalisation truly help put an end to alcoholism when prohibition failed to do so?", "Is revenue more important than human life?", "Does the government have no other means of earning revenue other than from liquor?", "Is legalisation the right step amid the War on Drugs campaign?", "No legalisation of liquor in Manipur", "Withdraw cabinet's decision", and " Save the people of Manipur from liquor", a release by CADA Information & Publicity secretary L Brojen Angomcha informed.
