Thang-ta materials distributed

Ministry of Defence has been urged to give extra credits to candidates with Thang-Ta certificates in recruitment examinations conducted under the ministry, said Chief Minister's Indigenous Martial Arts Academy secretary Ksh Bhakta Kumar.
He was speaking at a distribution function of interlocking mats, Thang (sword), Chungoi (shield), and track suits for instructors to different Thang-Ta institutions under the aegis of chief minister N Biren held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, here, on Sunday.
This is the third time the academy is distributing such materials to Thang-Ta institutions Speaking on the occasion, Bhakta Kumar informed that the academy had distributed similar materials to 47 organisations and would be reaching out to 74 organisations in the third phase.
He also spoke on the initiatives taken up by the Biren government to promote the indigenous martial art form, which will not only popularise the art form but also promote healthy lifestyles among the youth by keeping them away from substance abuse.
So far, Thang-Ta Shanglens (training centres) have been constructed at 15 locations and construction of 15 others is in progress.
Moreover, the CM has approved construction of 20 more and the academy is hopeful that the state will have at least 50 Shanglens for Thang-Ta by the end of the current year, he said.
Padmashri Kakchingtabam Sanathoi, Thang-Ta instructors Thingbaijam Ibohanbi, Okram Man-glem, Laishram Lashamon, N Ibohal and Thiyam Kora, and CMIMAA advisor Yumlembam Meiraba also attended the programme as dais members.
