Imphal, November 08 2022:
Wangjing Tentha MLA and MDS chairman Paonam Brojen has stated that women alone cannot develop the handloom and handicraft products of the state until local people particularly men join in promoting the indigenous products.
Paonam Brojen stated this while taking part in the Thoubal and Kakching Day event on the fourth day of the ongoing Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX2O22) being held at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi on Tuesday.
Speaking as chief guest, MLA Brojen pointed out that majority of indigenous handloom products are made by women but role of men is required in developing this sector.
Weavers of the state produce mainly female oriented products but they should seek help from experts for producing male products too.
This will not only help in promoting indigenous handloom by men but also help in enhancing economy as purchase ofimported cloths would be lessened, he said.
The event was also attended by Kakching MLA M Rameshor, Wabagai MLA Dr Usham Deben, director (handloom) Lamlee Kamei and joint director (handloom) E Jiten.
Many weavers and artisans from Thoubal and Kakching districts took part in the event and showcased their products.
Later, a seminar on 'Prospect and potential of Kouna products' was held.
