27th Pumlen Day Celebration 2022 : LDA Chairman calls for collective effort to conserve Pumlen Pat

The 27th Pumlen Day Celebration 2022 was held at Tokpaching Village in Chandel district this evening organised by Pumlen Lake Development Organisation (PLDO) under the theme "Save Pumlen, Save Environment" .
Dignitaries present at the celebration include M Asnikumar Singh, Chairman LDA; Dr Y Radheshyam Singh, MLA Hiyanglam Constituency; Oinam Bikram, president, PLDO and Oinam Binoy, Assistant Professor, Kakching Khunou College as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, the LDA Chairman appealed for collective effort to conserve and sustainably manage the treasured Pumlen Pat Wetland (which is the second largest wetland of the state), considering its ecological, cultural and social-economic value since time immemorial.

He then expressed appreciation for the selfless efforts of the fishing community of Pumlenpat area for participating actively in the ongoing cleaning/flushing of 'phumdi' from the core areas of Pumlen lake.
He added that Chingjao, Chingkok, Chingmei and Hapcha (which are important islands of the Pumlen lake, provide livelihood to 21/22 villages and are home to various species of flora and fauna) will also be an area of focus in the long term conservation mission.
"Under the vision and leadership of the people's CM N Biren Singh, the LDA is in the planning process of drawing up a long term master plan for conservation and management of Loktak Lake and its associated wetlands including Pumlen Pat with the help of renowned international wetland experts'', he concluded.
Dr Y Radheshyam Singh also addressed the gathering and assured that efforts to clear Pumlen Pat of 'phumdi' will continue.
He also added that efforts are underway to renovate historic sites under the Tourism Department.
Spot painting, essay writing competition and cultural show based on Pumlen Pat were part of the 27th Pumlen Day Celebration 2022 .
The celebration also witnessed the attendance of ZP members, pradhans, academicians, functionaries of PLDO and the local communities.
