Imphal, November 08 2022:
The All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association (AMHSDA) has cautioned of launching different forms of agitation if the Government fails to entertain the charter of demands it submitted.
The demands placed by AMHSDA include time-bound promotion and extending retirement age of specialist and non-specialist doctors to 65 years among others.
Today, doctors under AMHSDA staged a sit-in protest at the complex of Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Lamphelpat.
On the sideline of the demonstration, AMHSDA general secretary Dr Lolee P Mao appealed to the State Government to implement Health Services Purpose Rule 2020, claiming that non amendment of the service rules framed in 1982 put the doctors in a disadvantageous situation.
Saying that there are many doctors who have worked for over a decade but are deprived of promotion due to lapses in the service rules, he claimed that poor promotion avenues demoralises the doctors.
Dr Lolee then appealed to the State Government to frame proper service rules.
He also said that the reduction of superannuation age of doctors to 62 equally affects the junior and senior staff and urged the Government to increase the same to 65 .
Asking why the Government is not granting Non Practicing Allowance to doctors under Manipur Health Services, Dr Lolee further appealed to the Government to maintain the transfer and posting policy properly and give extra allowances to doctors posted at remote areas.
He went on to urge the Government to create a Director General post of Manipur Health Services and give the Director post based on seniority.
Saying that the doctors resolved to stage protest demonstrations as the Government didn't take up any positive action on the demands they served nearly two years ago, he cautioned that their agitation will be intensified if no positive response is given.
